Here, I’ll share my top 10 must-try dishes in Naples to help every foodie make the most of their visit.

The Foodie’s Guide to Naples Food

Walking through the streets of Naples, you’ll find mouthwatering Naples food on every corner. The city’s culinary scene is deeply rooted in tradition, featuring dishes that are mostly bread and pasta-based, with a notable influence from its coastal location on the Tyrrhenian Sea. My advice? Make a list of traditional dishes you want to try and dive in! Here are my top 10 favorites:

10. Taralli

Crunchy, ring-shaped snacks made with flour, lard, and almonds, often spiced with black pepper. Perfectly portable, they’re the ideal treat to munch on while exploring the city.

9. Pasta Frittata

This dish turns leftover pasta into something amazing! Shaped into a fried ball, it’s crispy, delicious, and full of Neapolitan creativity.

8. Gnocchi alla Sorrentina

Soft potato gnocchi baked in a rich tomato sauce with gooey mozzarella. This comforting dish is a celebration of Naples’ love for simple, high-quality ingredients.

7. Rum Baba

A spongy, rum-soaked pastry that’s a staple of Neapolitan bakeries. Its unique texture and boozy kick make it unforgettable.

6. Sfogliatella

This iconic shell-shaped pastry is flaky on the outside and filled with a sweet, ricotta-based cream. A must-have with your morning espresso.

5. Pizza Fritta

Fried pizza might sound indulgent, but it’s a Neapolitan classic. Stuffed with ricotta and other savory fillings, it’s a satisfying twist on the city’s most famous dish.

4. Zeppole di San Giuseppe

Traditionally enjoyed on St. Joseph’s Day, these deep-fried dough balls are filled with custard and topped with powdered sugar. Sweet and heavenly!

3. Frittura di Pesce

Naples’ proximity to the sea shines in this dish. A mix of fried seafood, including anchovies, shrimp, and calamari, served in a paper cone—it’s street food at its finest.

2. Pizza Carnevale

This star-shaped pizza is a lesser-known treasure. Its edges are folded and filled with creamy ricotta, while the center bursts with vibrant toppings. A visual and culinary delight!

1. Pizza Napoletana

The crown jewel of Naples food. This wood-fired pizza features a soft, charred crust, San Marzano tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, and a drizzle of olive oil. Simplicity at its best.

My Star Pizza Experience at Da Attilio

While every dish on this list is incredible, my experience with Pizza Carnevale was truly unforgettable. On our last day in Naples, we were hungry and short on time. Instead of consulting reviews, I trusted my instincts and stumbled upon a bustling pizzeria near a fresh fish stall.

The place was called 📍Da Attilio, and their signature dish was the star-shaped pizza. As soon as I took my first bite, I knew I had found something extraordinary. The creamy ricotta-filled edges paired with the light and juicy center made it one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. To top it off, I met the owner, Attilio Bachetti, a celebrated pizzaiolo of Naples. What a find! I can’t recommend this pizzeria enough for authentic Naples food.

Final Thoughts

Naples is a city that lives and breathes food. From its world-famous pizzas to its sweet pastries and fresh seafood, every corner offers a taste of tradition and passion. If you’re planning a trip and want to experience the very best of Naples food, make sure to add these dishes to your list.
